Book Review: Suspicion

SuspicionAuthor: Alexandra Monir

Mysterious. Magnificent. Creepy. Welcome to Rockford Manor.

"There's something hidden in the Maze." Seventeen-year-old Imogen has never forgotten the last words her father said to her seven years ago, before the blazing fire that consumed him, her mother, and the gardens of her family's English country manor.

Haunted by her parents' deaths, Imogen moves to New York City with her new guardians. But when a letter arrives with the news of her cousin's untimely death, revealing that Imogen is now the only heir left to run the estate, she returns to England and warily accepts her role as duchess.

All is not as it seems at Rockford, and Imogen quickly learns that dark secrets lurk behind the mansion's aristocratic exterior, hinting that the spate of deaths in her family were no accident. And at the center of the mystery is Imogen herself--and Sebastian, the childhood friend she has secretly loved for years. Just what has Imogen walked into?

Combining a fresh twist on the classic REBECCA with a spine-tingling mystery and powerful romance, SUSPICION is an action-packed thrill ride.

As I’m running, I imagine that I’m shedding my old skin, the carefree little girl I used to be disintegrating into dust beneath my feet, until all that’s left of me is an unrecognizable orphan – alone with terrifying new abilities.

“I’m not. They can call me duchess, but I’m still me.”

My new life in England is waiting, whether I like it or not – and there’s no turning back.

Alexandra Monir’s latest novel brings mystery, suspense, and a brilliant paranormal twist to the reader. It took me a short two days to finish this book and I must say that it was quite the engaging page-turner. The story is told in three parts and follows our main character, Imogen Rockford. Readers first learn about Imogen’s horrifying past in which she loses a lot of very important that she once loved. While we get a picturesque view of the beautiful mansion and gardens at Rockford, we also get to know the vast array of mysterious characters whose motives might and intentions are suspect. Readers follow Imogen as she uncovers many hidden secrets of her family and the beautiful mansion that they once called home.

I love the detailed history of the Rockford family and all the chilling secrets that I learned along the way. Imogen was the best guide possible for this story because of her bravery and persistence. She was determined to solve the mystery behind the strange deaths of the ones she loved. If you are looking for a good mystery that will not allow you to turn the pages quickly enough, then you should consider picking this book up immediately. I needed answers and could not stop reading until I found them!
